My current touring kayak is a 2001, 13-foot Wilderness Systems Ride sit-on-top with rudder. It tracks well and is extremely stable, so is suitable for long distances, large waves, and heavy weather.
I’m looking for a folding kayak that has similar characteristics, that I can get onto an airplane as checked luggage. I think the tandem Neris Smart Pro Expedition will do the job, just curious if anyone here has experience with them.
The other kayak I’m looking at is the Pakboat Puffin Saranac. It looks like it would be faster and more maneuverable than the Neris, but can’t handle as much weight (400lbs vs 550lbs) and is built more like a sit-inside kayak (possibly less stable). Still, it’s a excellent kayak in the same price range as the Neris. (About $300 more after skirts and rudder added.)
